After a long 28-year wait, the New York Cosmos, the former club of Pelé in the 70s, secured the NASL (American D2) championship title by defeating the Atlanta Silverbacks with a score of 1-0. The crucial goal was scored by the Spanish veteran Marcos Senna, who was part of the European Championship-winning Spanish team in 2008. This victory marked the Cosmos’ sixth title since 1982 (previously in 1972, 1977, 1978, and 1980). Despite this success, the Cosmos will not be part of the Soccer Elite (MLS) next season, as franchises are selected by the league, and the Cosmos are currently on the waiting list.
