Cameroon star Karl Toko Ekambi, renowned for his prowess as an untamable lion on the international stage, has declared his retirement from international football at the age of 32.

The announcement was made on his Instagram account on February 1, 2024, signalling the end of a remarkable nine-year journey with the Cameroon national team.

Toko Ekambi, born in France and developed in Paris FC, embraced his father’s heritage by representing Cameroon.

Recruited in 2015 by German coach Volker Finke and later playing a pivotal role in securing the Africa Cup of Nations championship in 2017 under the guidance of Hugo Broos, he became a symbol of the indomitable spirit of the Lions.

His memorable contributions, including a crucial double against Ethiopia during AFCON, 2021, and a decisive goal against Algeria for World Cup qualification in Qatar 2022, etched his name into the history of Cameroon’s football legacy.

Despite expressing disappointment at not advancing further after exiting the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Ekambi expressed pride in his team’s collective efforts.

As the talented forward embarks on a new chapter with Al Ettifaq FC in the elite Saudi Arabian League, his legacy as an indomitable lion forever remains in the annals of Cameroon’s football history.
