Union Berlin sign Felix Uduokhai from Besiktas
Union Berlin have signed Felix Uduokhai from Besiktas, bringing the 28-year-old centre-back back to the Bundesliga after two years in Turkey.
The club did not disclose the length of his contract, but the move provides timely reinforcement for a defence that required rebuilding.
Uduokhai joined Beşiktaş from Augsburg for €5 million and made 58 competitive appearances for the Istanbul club, registering one assist. However, the former Germany Under-21 international lost his regular starting place last season, paving the way for a return to his home country.
Union managing director Horst Heldt welcomed the signing, saying: “Felix brings a profile that is not easy to find on the market. He is strong in challenges, has good build-up play and knows the demands of a high level from many years in the Bundesliga as well as from a top club in the Super Lig.”
He added: “We are convinced that he will give our defence important impetus.”
The arrival addresses departures at the heart of Union’s back line. Danilho Doekhi left for Lazio, while Diogo Leite departed as a free agent. Marvin Friedrich and Zeno Van den Bosch had already joined, but Uduokhai adds further experience and depth. He will now aim to earn a key role at the Alte Forsterei.
