Union Berlin hand professional contract to rising striker Mekhi Gray
Union Berlin have continued their commitment to developing young talent after securing highly-rated striker Mekhi Gray on a long-term professional contract.
The Bundesliga club officially confirmed that the 19-year-old forward has signed his first senior deal, although the exact length of the contract has not been disclosed.
Gray’s Journey Through Union Berlin’s Academy
Gray joined Union Berlin in 2020 and has steadily progressed through the club’s youth system since arriving in Köpenick.
The Jamaican-born striker recently earned opportunities to train regularly with the first team, where he reportedly impressed the coaching staff with his performances and development.
Standing at 1.97 meters tall, Gray has become known for his physical presence and goalscoring ability, qualities he showcased during his final season with the U19 side.
Impressive Goalscoring Record
The young forward enjoyed a strong campaign at youth level, scoring 11 goals in just 15 appearances for Union Berlin’s U19 team.
His performances helped strengthen his case for a long-term future with the Bundesliga side as the club continues to invest in emerging talent from its academy structure.

Union Berlin Managing Director of Professional Football Horst Heldt spoke highly of the striker, highlighting both his performances and his attitude around the senior squad.
“Mekhi has made a lasting impression through his performances. In recent months, he has also left a positive impression on the professional team,” Heldt said.

The teenager also expressed his excitement after taking the next major step in his career with the German club.
“I am very proud to be able to continue my journey at Union. The fact that I continue to have the opportunity to prove myself in the professional arena and to develop at a high level means a great deal to me,” Gray stated.
With his first professional contract now secured, Gray will be aiming to continue his rise and push for opportunities with Union Berlin’s senior team in the Bundesliga.
