Algerian international Billal Brahimi credits Neymar Jr for helping him settle at Santos FC

Arriving at Santos FC after leaving OGC Nice, Billal Brahimi was eager to revive his career and earn a place back in Algeria’s national squad.

The 25-year-old was initially enthusiastic about joining the legendary Brazilian club, drawn by their ambitious project and excited to play in Neymar’s home country.

Though Brahimi’s debut hinted at a bright start—he showed skill and eagerness against Red Bull Bragantino, his fortunes quickly changed. Weeks have passed, six matches to be exact, and Brahimi hasn’t played another minute, forced to watch from the bench. According to ESPN Brasil, frustration is growing for Brahimi, worsened by unclear communication at the club.

A disagreement between club leaders has added to the drama. President Marcelo Teixeira claimed coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda “insisted strongly” on Brahimi’s signing. Vojvoda denied this, saying he only approved Brahimi’s profile after watching videos.

The coach also explained Brahimi needs more time to adapt to Brazilian football. Meanwhile, Brahimi’s sincere hopes and ambitions for Santos remain unresolved as his future at the club looks very uncertain.
