In the second day of the UEMOA Tournament group stage, the Togolese national football team, the Eperviers, suffered a 4-0 defeat against Burkina Faso. The loss leaves Togo with slim hopes of winning the tournament, while Burkina Faso secured a significant victory.
The match started quickly, with Elias Tiendrébéogo scoring for Burkina Faso in the 2nd minute. Despite Togo’s attempts to respond, with missed opportunities by Gbandi-Gbandi and Kondo Arimiyaou, their efforts were hampered by a red card given to Aboubacar Rachidou. Burkina Faso maintained their lead and capitalized on the advantage.
In the second half, Burkina Faso continued their dominance. Issifou Dayo scored a penalty in the 56th minute, and despite Togo also being awarded a penalty, Burkina Faso’s goalkeeper Mohamed Kaboré denied Kokou Donou’s attempt. The Stallions sealed their victory with goals from Bassirou Ouédraogo and Simplice Yaméogo, securing a final score of 4-0.
With this result, Burkina Faso leads Group A, pending the outcome of the Ivory Coast-Mali match.
