Following the decision by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the governing body of football laws, to reject UEFA’s request to abolish the triple penalty (penalty, red card, and suspension), Michel Platini expressed his disappointment during the Strategic Council for European Professional Football (CSFP).
The IFAB’s rationale behind the decision was the concern that eliminating the red card sanction could potentially encourage deliberate fouls in the penalty area. As a result, the matter has been referred to a panel of experts tasked with proposing improvements to the rules.
