Ghana forward Inaki Williams expressed his disappointment after Athletic Club’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, insisting the scoreline was not a true reflection of the match.

The Black Stars striker, who captained the La Liga side at the San Mames, had hoped to inspire a winning start to their European campaign.

Athletic Club began brightly but failed to convert their chances, while Arsenal secured victory in the second half with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Speaking after the game, Inaki Williams acknowledged Arsenal’s quality but maintained that his side deserved more from their performance.

“The result doesn’t reflect the game; we played well. Arsenal is one of the favourites in this competition; we fought and gave it our all,” he said.

With their Champions League opener behind them, Inaki Williams and his Athletic Club teammates will now switch focus to La Liga, where they face Valencia on Saturday, September 20.
