UCL: Nico Williams doubtful for Athletic Club’s clash with Newcastle due to pubalgia
Spanish forward of Ghanaian descent, Nico Williams, is set to miss Athletic Club’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Newcastle United due to persistent pubalgia discomfort.
According to sources in Spain, the 23-year-old has been playing through pain since the start of the 2025/26 football season.
The medical staff at Athletic Club is reportedly considering surgery to address the problem and provide a lasting solution.
As a result of the ongoing pain, Williams is a major doubt for his team’s midweek trip to England for the crucial clash against Newcastle. His absence would be a significant blow to the La Liga side as they push to secure qualification to the knockout stage of the competition.
The fixture against Newcastle United is scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5.
There are also growing concerns that if the issue is not resolved soon, it could worsen and potentially jeopardise his chances of being fully fit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
