UCL: Fit-again Victor Osimhen named MoTM after netting winner for Galatasaray against Liverpool
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was named Man of the Match (MoTM) on Tuesday night after scoring the winning goal for Galatasaray when the Turkish champions defeated English champions Liverpool by a goal to nil in the UEFA Champions League.
Osimhen, who has recently recovered from injury, started the game for his team and decided the game from the penalty spot.
After a clumsy challenge by Dominik Szoboszlai in the 15th minute, Galatasaray were awarded a penalty. Osimhen stepped up confidently and coolly sent Alisson the wrong way, firing down the middle to put his side ahead.
Liverpool pushed hard in search of an equaliser and thought they had a lifeline in the 88th minute when referee Clement Turpin awarded them a penalty after a tackle from Wilfried Singo.
However, following a VAR review, the decision was overturned, leaving the English champions frustrated.
Galatasaray held firm until the final whistle, with Osimhen’s strike proving enough to secure all three points in a famous win.
Following his return from injury, Osimhen will be key for Galatasaray in the upcoming matches.
He is expected to be named in Nigeria’s squad for the October international break ahead of the last round of games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
