UCL: English-Nigerian forward Bukayo Saka scores to seal 2-0 win for Arsenal against Olympiacos
English forward of Nigerian descent, Bukayo Saka, climbed off the Arsenal bench on Wednesday night, sealing a 2-0 victory against Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League.
The attacker missed out on a starting role today but came on in the 73rd minute to replace Leandro Trossard.
In the game played at Emirates Stadium, Arsenal took the lead in the 12th minute when Gabriel Martinelli pounced on a loose ball in the box, calmly finishing from close range after chaos in the goalmouth.
Substitute Bukayo Saka, then put the result beyond doubt in second-half stoppage time. A clever pass from Martin Ødegaard found him inside the box, and with composure, he slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to make it 2-0.
It was the perfect impact substitute display from Saka, who continues to underline his importance to Mikel Arteta’s side on Europe’s biggest stage.
The win leaves Arsenal fifth in the UEFA Champions League group phase standings with six points from their first two matches.
Saka and his teammates will now turn their attention to their next English Premier League match against West Ham United.
