Mali Eliminated from U23 AFCON After Loss to Cameroon
Mali’s U23 Africa Cup of Nations campaign has come to an abrupt end following a 0-1 defeat against Cameroon, marking their second consecutive loss in the group stage. The Eagles are now officially eliminated from the tournament.
After a tightly contested first half, Cameroon finally broke the deadlock in the 77th minute. Franck Evina, who had also scored in Cameroon’s opening match against Ghana, once again proved decisive for the Indomitable Lions. Despite Mali’s efforts, they were unable to respond, leaving the Eagles stranded at 0 points in the group standings.
Cameroon’s victory sees Rigobert Song’s side top Group A with 4 points, putting them in an excellent position to advance to the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Mali departs the tournament without a win, unable to recover from their opening defeat to Egypt.
The second match in Group A will see Egypt, with 3 points, take on Ghana, who have 1 point. Both teams will be looking to secure crucial points to keep their hopes of advancing alive.
Mali’s early exit underscores the challenges faced by the Eagles in this tournament, while Cameroon continues to impress as one of the strongest teams in the competition.
