Tunisia’s hopes were dashed in their match against Brazil in the round of 16 of the U20 World Cup. Despite playing with a numerical advantage for the entire second half, the Carthage Junior Eagles suffered a comprehensive 4-1 defeat.
The Brazilian onslaught began early, with Marcos Leonardo converting a penalty in the 11th minute to put his team ahead. Andrey Santos doubled the lead in the 31st minute, giving the Seleção a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime. However, Brazil was reduced to ten men after Robert Renan was sent off in the 45th minute.
Despite Tunisia’s hopes of capitalizing on their numerical superiority in the second half, it was Brazil who extended their lead with a goal in stoppage time (90+1) from Matheus Martins. Andrey Santos completed his brace just nine minutes later (90+10), further widening the gap to 4-0.
Tunisia managed to salvage some pride with a late goal from Mahmoud Ghorbel in stoppage time (90+13). However, it was too little, too late, as the heavy defeat spelled the end of Tunisia’s journey in the competition.
