South Africa’s U20 campaign continues to struggle at the World Cup. After a heavy 2-5 loss to Argentina on matchday one, the “Amajita” faced a must-win clash against South Korea but came up short again, losing 1-0 on Tuesday in Tychy.
The match was balanced in the first half, with neither side able to break the deadlock. South Korea struck in the 69th minute through Hyunwoo Kim, and South Africa couldn’t respond despite chasing an equalizer.
With two defeats in the bag, South Africa’s hopes now hinge on finishing third in Group F. Their final group game against Portugal on May 31 at the Bielsko-Biała Stadium becomes a do-or-die scenario, as they must win to have any chance of progressing to the knockout stages.
