U20 World Cup: Senegal Ready for Historic Debut Against Portugal
Senegal’s U20 national team, the Lion Cubs, are set to make their historic debut at the FIFA U20 World Cup this Sunday against Portugal. This marks the first-ever appearance for Senegal at this level of international competition, and coach Joseph Koto and his players are determined to make it count.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Koto emphasized his squad’s ambitions and fighting spirit:
“Our group is difficult, but we didn’t come here to make up the numbers; we’re going to do everything we can to honor our country. We know the history of Portuguese football. We’ve seen clips of our opponent’s match, and I think it will be a good match against Portugal,” he told Galsenfoot.
Drawn in a challenging group, Senegal will face Portugal, Colombia (Wednesday), and Qatar (Saturday). Despite being newcomers, the Lion Cubs aim to at least reach the knockout stage, showing that they belong on the world stage.
The whole nation will be watching as Senegal kicks off its U20 World Cup journey, hoping for a strong start against one of Europe’s most formidable youth teams.
