Nigeria’s U-20 Women’s Team Aim High Ahead of World Cup Opener
Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the Super Falcons, have set their sights firmly on glory as they prepare to kick off their campaign at the U-20 Women’s World Cup. Having reached the semifinals in the previous edition, the squad, led by captain Patience Okaeme, is determined to go one step further and claim the trophy.
“Being regarded as a major force in this category is both a confidence boost and a responsibility,” Okaeme said ahead of the tournament. “Two years ago, we reached the semi-finals. This time, our goal is to win the trophy. Setting such an objective naturally adds pressure, but we believe in the quality of our squad.”
The Super Falcons open their tournament on Wednesday against Mexico, aiming to build momentum from the outset. Their ambitions are shared by fellow African representatives Ghana, who made a strong start by defeating hosts Canada 1-0 in their opening match.
As the competition intensifies, Nigeria will hope their blend of experience and talent can carry them all the way to the final, raising the profile of women’s football on the continent.
