Ghana’s Black Princesses began their U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign on a high note, securing a 1-0 win against tournament hosts Canada. A decisive goal from Sumaila ensured the West African side claimed second place in Group A, behind North Korea.
North Korea also claimed victory in their opening match, edging Finland 2-1, and will face Ghana in a crucial Group A clash on August 8.
Meanwhile, another African contender, Nigeria, is set to make their tournament debut this Tuesday. The Super Falcons, runners-up in 2010 and semi-finalists two years ago, will take on Mexico in Group C.
