Morocco’s U20 national team came from behind on Thursday night, beating Kenya’s U20 side 3-2 in their opening Group B game at the 2025 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
In the game played at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, Kenya scored first in the 16th minute when Lawrence Ouma found the back of the net.
After going behind, Morocco showed a lot of resilience and scored in the final seconds of the first half courtesy of a strike from Yassir Zabiri to restore parity to the game before the break.
The forward returned from the break energised and scored his second of the match in the 55th minute, giving Morocco a 2-1 lead.
Although Kenya would reply with a second thanks to a strike from Hassan Beja in the 71st minute, Reda Laakaoui won the game for Morocco with an equaliser in the 78th minute.
The hard-fought win leaves Morocco at the top of the Group B standings after the first round of games.
Nigeria is in second with three points, just like Morocco while Kenya and Tunisia follow in third and fourth respectively.
