Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie has officially parted ways with Swiss side FC Zürich following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
The 24-year-old joined the club in January 2023 from Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak, where he had established himself as one of the country’s top young prospects.
Afriyie made a total of 50 appearances for FC Zürich’s first team in competitive matches, scoring two goals and providing four assists during his two-and-a-half-year stint.
Despite a promising start, Afriyie struggled for regular playing time in his second season. He featured in just 13 matches during the 2024/25 campaign, mostly as a substitute, and has not played for the first team since December 2024.
With limited opportunities for minutes on the pitch, both player and club opted to end the partnership ahead of the new season.
A statement from FC Zürich expressed appreciation for Afriyie’s dedication and professionalism during his time in Switzerland and wished him success in his future endeavours.
The Ghana international, who captained his country’s U-20 team to a historic triumph at the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, will now be looking to reignite his club career with a fresh opportunity elsewhere in Europe or beyond.
Afriyie leaves Zurich with valuable experience and a desire to return to consistent top-flight football.
