Nigeria emerged victorious in the 15th edition of the Under-17 World Cup, securing their fourth world title and setting a new record for the most goals scored in the final phase. In the final against Mexico, Nigeria won 3-0, with the first goal scored in the 10th minute (an own goal by Aguirre) being the second-fastest in the final since 2003. The second goal, scored by Iheanacho, allowed Nigeria to break the record for goals scored in a final phase with a total of 26, surpassing Germany’s previous record of 24 goals in 2011.
Kelechi Iheanacho, with six goals, finished as the second-highest scorer in the tournament, behind the Swede Valmer Berisha. However, Iheanacho received the “Golden Ball” award, designating him as the best player in the competition. Nigeria also earned the Fair Play team trophy, and Dele Alampasu was awarded the title of “Best Goalkeeper.”
