The African representatives at the upcoming Under-17 Women’s World Cup have learned their group stage opponents following the draw conducted on Tuesday in Pueblo Antiguo, Costa Rica, the host country. Zambia, making its debut in the tournament, faces a challenging group.
Zambia’s U-17 women’s team, known as the Chipolopolo girls, is placed in Group A alongside the host nation Costa Rica, Venezuela, and Italy. To progress to the second round, Zambia will need to replicate the qualifying success that led to the elimination of South Africa.
Nigeria, a team with more experience in women’s tournaments, is positioned in Group D along with Mexico, China, and Colombia. The Nigerian U-17 women’s team, the Flamingoes, is considered capable of causing surprises in the competition.
Ghana, initially a candidate to host the event, is placed in Group B with North Korea, Germany, and Canada.
