Nigeria, Ghana, and Zambia have secured their spots in the upcoming Under-17 Women’s World Cup after successful performances in the qualifying return matches. This marks Zambia’s first qualification for a major women’s competition.
Zambia’s Chipolopolo girls caused an upset by defeating South Africa 3-1, overcoming a draw in the first leg. Nigeria and Ghana, both seasoned participants in the U17 World Cup (with three appearances each), will once again represent Africa in Costa Rica next year. While Ghana defeated Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria benefited from the withdrawal of Guinea Bissau.
The U17 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place from March 15 to April 5, 2014, in Costa Rica.
