U17 AFCON: Tanzania dominate Mozambique to secure massive 3-0 triumph
Tanzania’s national under-17 football team produced an impressive performance on Thursday to defeat Mozambique’s national under-17 football team 3-0 in their opening Group C fixture at the 2026 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The convincing victory was recorded at the Mohammed VI Football Academy, where Tanzania controlled key moments of the encounter to begin their campaign in style.
Tanzania Take Control In First Half
Tanzania opened the scoring in the 26th minute through Dismas Athanasi after a well-worked attacking move involving Issa Cholle.
The East Africans continued to apply pressure and doubled their advantage nine minutes later when Mozambique defender Pascoal Demi unfortunately turned the ball into his own net.
The quickfire goals handed Tanzania full control of the match heading into the halftime break.
Mbegelendi Seals Comfortable Victory
Mozambique attempted to respond in the second half, but Tanzania remained organised and dangerous on the counterattack.
The victory was confirmed in the 63rd minute when Razaki Mbegelendi added the third goal after being set up by Sadam Hamis.
Tanzania comfortably managed the remainder of the contest to secure all three points in emphatic fashion.
Strong Start To Group C Campaign
The result gives Tanzania an important early advantage in Group C as they continue their quest for qualification to the knockout stage of the tournament.
The dominant display will also boost confidence within the squad ahead of their upcoming fixtures in Morocco.
