Tanzania became the first team from Group C to qualify for the quarter-finals of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations after a commanding 3-0 victory over Angola on the second matchday of the competition.

The Serengeti Boys produced another composed and clinical performance to secure their second consecutive win of the tournament, confirming their place among the competition’s strongest sides after only two matches.

Already leading at half-time, Tanzania maintained control after the break and took full advantage of Angola’s difficulties to seal qualification for the knockout stage before their final group fixture.

The result means Tanzania now have six points from two matches, enough to guarantee progression to the quarter-finals regardless of the outcome of the remaining group games.

The East African side entered the match with confidence following their impressive opening victory and quickly demonstrated the same attacking intensity that had already attracted attention earlier in the tournament.

Angola initially attempted to resist Tanzania’s pressure, but the Serengeti Boys gradually imposed their rhythm and created increasing problems for the Angolan defence.

Their breakthrough arrived in the 27th minute when Mbegelendi finished calmly after being set up by Mbalasalu.

The goal rewarded Tanzania’s positive approach and reflected their growing dominance during the opening half.

After taking the lead, Tanzania continued to control possession and limit Angola’s attacking opportunities, ensuring they carried their advantage into the interval.

Any hopes Angola had of mounting a comeback after the restart were quickly weakened as Tanzania struck again early in the second half.

The introduction of Kizinga immediately proved effective for the Serengeti Boys.

Just seven minutes after the break, the substitute doubled Tanzania’s lead in the 52nd minute following an assist from Hamis.

The second goal further strengthened Tanzania’s control of the match and increased the pressure on Angola, who struggled to respond against a well-organised opponent.

The situation became even more complicated for the Angolan side in the 64th minute when Osvaldo Costa was shown a red card, reducing his team to ten men for the remainder of the encounter.

Playing with a numerical advantage, Tanzania wasted little time in extending their lead even further.

Only two minutes after the sending-off, Hamis completed another important contribution by adding the third goal of the afternoon after previously providing an assist earlier in the match.

The goal effectively ended any remaining hopes of an Angolan comeback and confirmed Tanzania’s superiority across all areas of the pitch.

The Serengeti Boys once again demonstrated balance between attacking efficiency and defensive organisation, qualities that have made them one of the standout teams in the group stage so far.

Their ability to manage the tempo of the match and capitalise on key moments has been central to their strong start to the tournament.

Tanzania’s early qualification represents a major achievement for the team, which has now secured back-to-back victories while scoring freely and maintaining control in crucial phases of matches.

The result also places them in a strong position ahead of the final round of group fixtures, where they could potentially finish top of Group C.

For Angola, the defeat leaves qualification hopes under serious pressure heading into the last matchday.

After struggling to contain Tanzania’s attacking movement and losing a player to a red card, they now face a difficult path to remain in contention.

Meanwhile, Tanzania continue to build momentum at exactly the right moment in the competition.

With six points already secured and a place in the quarter-finals confirmed, the Serengeti Boys have sent a strong message to the rest of the tournament about their ambitions at this year’s U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
