Morocco U-20 head coach, Mohamed Wahbi, has set his sights on guiding his side to secure qualification for the U-20 World Cup.
The North African country has been housed in Group B alongside Kenya, Nigeria and Tunisia for the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, which is scheduled to be hosted in Egypt.
confirmed that the goal of participating in the Africa Cup of Nations, being held in Egypt, is to win the cup and, of course, to qualify for the World Cup.
“Things are clear and don’t need a lot of interpretation. Qualifying for the Chile World Cup must first be achieved by reaching the final four, while we have another goal, which is to win this cup, despite the difficulty of the competition and the ferocity of our opponents,” Wahbi said.
“The change in the draw changed our previous plans. Our opponents have changed from those we were going to face in Côte d’Ivoire. The most important thing is to avoid a group of five teams because it is exhausting. Despite that, we are only thinking about what our players can offer to achieve the ultimate goal, God willing.
“We have a cohesive group, but in this type of final, many surprises arise from the heart of the competition, and we have to expect them,” he added.
The tournament is scheduled to run from 27 April to 18 May 2025. The four semi-finalists will earn tickets to represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, Chile 2025
