U-17 AFCON: Angola goalkeeper Gelson Dala sparks social media debate after heroics against Mali
Sixteen-year-old Angola goalkeeper Gelson Dala has become one of the most talked-about players at the ongoing CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after his impressive performance against Mali on Thursday.
The shot-stopper played a key role as Angola held Mali to a draw, producing a number of important saves to frustrate the West Africans throughout the contest.
His outstanding display earned him the TotalEnergies Man of the Match award, further underlining his importance to the Angolan side in the tournament.
However, beyond his performances on the pitch, Dala has also generated widespread reactions on social media over his facial appearance and body structure, with many users questioning his stated age.
Some fans have expressed doubts about the player being 16 years old, while others have called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strengthen age-verification measures in youth competitions.
