Cameroonian football has been rocked again by internal turmoil, following the shocking resignation of Benoît Angbwa as Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) Assistant Secretary General.
His abrupt departure – now going viral on social media – is the fifth such high-level resignation in three years of Samuel Eto’o’s leadership of the federation.
This succession of resignations comes at the end of a deeper crisis brewing at the heart of the federation.
Angbwa, one of the former stars on the global scene who had previously been touted as a candidate for inclusion at FECAFOOT leadership, reportedly resigned under reports of internal disagreements regarding management and strategy.
According to unidentified sources, Angbwa became increasingly sidelined in decision-making, limiting him to figurehead roles despite having years of experience.
Since Eto’o became president, FECAFOOT has had a revolving door of Secretary Generals – Parfait Siki Banlog, Blaise Djounang, Isaac Mandong, Benjamin Banlock, and now Angbwa.
Each departure has undermined the federation’s credibility and stability, questioning its capacity to bring a long-term vision to Cameroonian football.
With the Indomitable Lions set to play the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September and October and the 2025 AFCON in December, the timing could not be worse.
