Florent Malouda is experiencing a rejuvenation in his football career after being absent from the field last season due to his lack of playing time at Chelsea. The French midfielder has found new life with Trabzonspor, the Turkish club he joined this season, and he expresses no regrets about this decision.
In an interview with the local daily Fotomaç, Malouda explained the circumstances leading to his move, stating, “It’s a long story. My contract at Chelsea was over, and I was waiting for offers at the end of last season. An offer from Trabzonspor arrived, and it was very interesting. I spoke to the president in person, and he expressed his desire to have me at Trabzonspor. I was convinced from my first step at the airport. I was impressed, and I told myself that I had to come and live here. I said yes.”
Malouda admitted that his former teammate Didier Drogba played a role in influencing his decision. “Drogba had an impact on my decision. I spoke about Turkey with him. When he arrived from China, I started following the championship. He invited me to a match against Trabzonspor. I was impressed by the atmosphere in the stands and saw how much football was loved here. The presence of Drogba and my experience during this match made me want to come,” he said.
Malouda also expressed his admiration for Trabzonspor’s coach, Mustafa Akçay, stating, “The coach is very good. He communicates very well with the players, which is crucial for me. This is the first time he has managed such an important club, and I think he can do a good job with us.”
At 33 years old, it seems that the end of Florent Malouda’s football career may not be imminent, as he embarks on this new chapter with Trabzonspor.
