Turkish referee Halil Umut Meler to officiate Egyptian Super Cup final
The Egyptian Football Association has announced the appointment of Turkish referee Halil Umut Meler to take charge of the Egyptian Super Cup final between Al Ahly and Zamalek at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Meler will be assisted by fellow Turks Ceyhun Sesigüzel and Abdullah Bora, with UAE’s Suhail Al-Mulla as the fourth official. Istvan Vad of Hungary and Angel Buio of Mexico will oversee VAR duties.
Halil Umut Meler, born in 1986, brings a wealth of experience after earning his FIFA badge in 2017 and officiating major matches in the Champions League, Europa League, and even the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Known for his composed presence, technical discipline, and precise match control, Meler has become one of Europe’s top officials.
He handled key Turkish derbies, youth tournaments, and several cup finals, earning praise from analysts for his ability to manage stress and utilize VAR effectively.
This season alone, Meler has refereed matches in the Turkish Süper Lig, Europa League, and UAE Pro League, underscoring his reliability on the international stage.
