Leeds United's Ethan Ampadu draws leadership inspiration from Chelsea icons

The former partner of Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu has fired back after the club distanced the midfielder from a photo of their son in a Galatasaray jersey.

Tensions flared online when the image surfaced, stirring painful memories for Leeds fans still grieving the tragic loss of two supporters killed in Istanbul ahead of a UEFA Cup semi-final clash with the Turkish club in 2000.

Leeds United swiftly released a statement saying Ampadu and his ex-partner had separated “several months ago,” and that he held “no responsibility for the image in question.” The club also described Ampadu as “sensitive” to the emotions surrounding the matter.

But Saara Sa, the mother of Ethan Ampadu’s son, responded strongly on social media.

“My condolences are with the families of the two people who passed away in Istanbul. I am Turkish and our son is part Turkish. Galatasaray is my family’s supporting home team and has been for years.

“We are the parents of our child and Ethan was aware of the photo. I would appreciate if Leeds United Football Club would not portray a false narrative by making a statement stating lies.”
