Senegal’s Kader Mangane Ruled Out of AFCON 2015 with Knee Injury
Bad news for Senegalese football fans: Kader Mangane’s season is officially over. The experienced defender suffered a serious knee injury during Kayseri Erciyesspor’s 1-1 draw with Mersin Idman Yurdu in the Turkish league.
Medical examinations revealed a torn medial ligament in his right knee, along with damage to the lateral meniscus. Mangane is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days.
This injury deals a major blow to Senegal’s defense ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, set to begin in Equatorial Guinea on January 17. The 31-year-old, who has previously played for Rennes, Lens, and had a loan spell at Sunderland, will miss the tournament entirely.
Currently on loan at Kayseri Erciyesspor, Mangane’s absence will leave a gap in Alain Giresse’s squad as the Lions of Teranga prepare to face Algeria, Ghana, and South Africa in the tournament’s highly competitive Group C.
