Faouzi Benzarti’s tenure as head coach of the Tunisian national team has abruptly ended after just three months in charge, AfricaSoccer.com can report
Despite a promising start with two victories in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, poor performances in the subsequent matches have led to his dismissal.
A 1-0 home defeat to the Comoros and a 1-1 draw in Abidjan hampered the team’s progress toward early qualification, prompting the Tunisian Football Federation to terminate his contract.
According to official statements from the Tunisian Football Federation on Tuesday, the contract was terminated by mutual agreement.
The football organization expressed gratitude for the work of Faouzi Benzarti, who held the position for only three months for his fifth spell as trainer of the Carthage Eagles.
“The Tunisian Football Federation would like to thank Mr. Faouzi Benzarti for his services and efforts during his tenure as head coach of the national team and wishes him success in his future coaching career,” the statement reads.
Born in 1950 in Monastir, Benzarti’s coaching career spans over four decades, with stints at more than fourteen clubs and two national teams.
Notably, the 74-year-old led Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic to the final of the FIFA Club World Cup in 2013.
Under his short-lived leadership of Tunisia, Benzarti achieved two wins, one loss, and one draw.
His dismissal marks another chapter in a long and storied career, reflecting the often unpredictable nature of football management.
