Tunisian Cup: Palme Sportive Tozeur Withdraws from Competition
Palme Sportive of Tozeur has officially withdrawn from the Tunisian Football Cup, the club announced in a letter sent to the Tunisian Football Federation. This decision marks the third withdrawal from the competition, following Gabès and ES Métlaoui.
The club cited several challenges leading to their exit, notably the departure of key players and a lack of training since the end of the league season. Additionally, Tozeur’s recent relegation to Ligue 2 has compounded the difficulties faced by the team.
As a result, the scheduled round of 16 match against Stade Tunisien, originally set for June 12, will no longer take place. Stade Tunisien will automatically progress to the quarter-finals due to their opponent’s withdrawal.
This development reflects the ongoing struggles some clubs face balancing league commitments and cup competitions, particularly amid the financial and organizational strains that come with relegation. The Tunisian Football Federation has yet to comment on how it plans to address these withdrawals moving forward.
