Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi parts ways with Kaizer Chiefs after ending club’s trophy drought
Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that Tunisian head coach Nasreddine Nabi has left the club by mutual consent after guiding the South African giants to their first piece of silverware in more than a decade.
The club announced on Wednesday that Nabi will not be on the touchline this weekend when Chiefs open their CAF Confederation Cup campaign against Angolan side Kabuscorp S.C.P. in the first-round preliminary qualifier.
Nabi, who was in his second season with Amakhosi, had been credited with stabilising the team and steering them back to the top of South African football after years of underachievement. His departure marks a sudden end to a tenure that had been viewed as transformative for the club.
The 58-year-old’s exit comes in the wake of a personal crisis. His wife was recently involved in a serious accident in Tunisia, prompting Chiefs to grant him compassionate leave at the start of the season. He missed the first three matches of the campaign as a result.
