Slim Jedidi, the Tunisian referee who officiated the semi-final between Burkina Faso and Ghana during the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), admitted to making mistakes in his performance during the match. He acknowledged that he was not at his best and made several errors.
In his statement, Jedidi expressed regret for the impact of his mistakes on those affected by them and apologized for the errors he made during the semi-final. Despite the acknowledgment of his errors, Jedidi also mentioned that he is trying to move on and move forward.
One of the consequences of the referee’s errors was that Jonathan Pitroipa, a player from Rennes, was initially sent off during the semi-final. However, after reviewing the situation, CAF (Confederation of African Football) allowed Pitroipa to play in the final against Nigeria. Jedidi, despite admitting his mistakes, stated that he has not been suspended and remains in the running for future officiating assignments, including the possibility of officiating at the next World Cup. He emphasized that the confidence in his abilities hasn’t faded based on one game.
