Tunisia Eyes Crucial Win Against Senegal in CAN 2015 Qualifiers
After a goalless draw in Dakar on the third day of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers, Tunisia and Senegal remain neck-and-neck at the top of Group G, each with seven points. The two sides are set to clash again this Wednesday in Monastir, in a match that could prove vital in the race to secure qualification for the tournament in Morocco.
Tunisian center-back Aymen Abdennour has emphasized the significance of the upcoming game, noting that a win could provide Tunisia with a strong advantage. “We will need to be more aggressive, solid at the back, and more efficient on the counter-attack,” said the AS Monaco defender, underlining the tactical adjustments needed to overcome the Lions of Teranga.
Tunisia will, however, be without Yassine Chikhaoui, who is suspended for the match. Abdennour acknowledged the absence: “He’s an excellent player who will leave a big void, but we have a strong squad with players capable of stepping in.”
With three games remaining, both teams know that the slightest slip could open the door for Egypt (3 points) or Botswana (0 points) to close the gap. A positive result in Monastir would put Tunisia a step closer to Morocco — and a spot in the final tournament.
