The coach of Tunisia, Sami Trabelsi, has successfully convinced Saphir Taïder, a Franco-Tunisian player from Bologna in Serie A, to play for the national team of Tunisia. Taïder, however, has set a condition for his commitment: his first appearance for Tunisia will be in March 2013 during the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup and not in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in South Africa.
This condition was accepted by Coach Sami Trabelsi, who explained that Taïder wants to focus on asserting himself with Bologna in Serie A before making his debut for the national team. The announcement was made during the publication of the pre-list of Tunisian players selected for the 2013 CAN in South Africa.
Saphir Taïder’s decision to represent Tunisia is in line with the choice made by Ishak Belfodil, another player from Parma. However, it’s noted that Wissam Ben Yedder has declined the opportunity to play for Tunisia.
These developments highlight the strategic decisions made by players regarding their international careers, considering both individual goals and the priorities of the national teams they choose to represent.
