Meriem Cherniv Mizouni Honored with IOC “Women and Sport” World Trophy
Meriem Cherniv Mizouni, former Tunisian swimmer and coach, has been awarded the prestigious “Women and Sport” World Trophy by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This honor recognizes her outstanding commitment to promoting and integrating women in sports across all levels.
The IOC praised her dynamism and efforts, highlighting her initiatives to boost women’s presence in administrative and decision-making roles. Since 2012, Tunisian national sports federations have been required to appoint technical advisors focused on developing women’s sport — a policy launched thanks to Mizouni’s advocacy. She also initiated the popular “Women’s Sports Night” event, attracting thousands of women and girls nationwide.
Meriem Cherniv Mizouni was the first Tunisian woman to be part of her country’s official delegation at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. Today, she serves as Tunisia’s Secretary of State for Sports and chairs the Women and Sports Commission of the Tunisian National Olympic Committee (NOC).
