Tunisia Ligue 1 Title Race Tightens as Sfaxien and Espérance Share Points
Club Sportif Sfaxien and Espérance Sportive de Tunis played out a goalless draw on Wednesday in a highly anticipated clash on Matchday 27 of Tunisia’s Ligue 1. While both teams displayed moments of intensity, neither could break the deadlock, resulting in a 0-0 stalemate that leaves both sides disappointed in the title race.
The result has significant implications at the top of the table. With Espérance failing to collect all three points, they now fall behind rivals Club Africain, who secured a convincing 3-0 win over Club Athlétique Bizertin. The victory lifts CA to 56 points, two ahead of Espérance (54) and three above Etoile Sportive du Sahel (53), who also kept pace with a win over ES Métlaoui.
For Espérance, the draw could prove costly. The inability to capitalise on their rivals’ slip-ups earlier in the season has left them playing catch-up in the closing stages of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Club Africain’s commanding victory has injected fresh momentum into their title bid. Defender Bilel Iffa, speaking after the match, made clear that the team’s ambitions remain high: “A very important victory after playing well. Now, we must not waste points on Saturday against Espérance de Zarzis. We intend to continue this momentum and go all the way to the top.”
With just three matchdays remaining, the title race is finely poised, with three clubs separated by only three points. The pressure is now on Espérance and Etoile du Sahel to respond quickly if they hope to dethrone the league leaders.
As the season nears its conclusion, every point gained—or dropped—will prove decisive in determining the 2024–25 Ligue 1 champion.
