The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia held Brazil to a 1-1 stalemate on Tuesday night in an international friendly match played in France.

The match began with Tunisia showing fearless intent. Rodrygo’s early attempt for Brazil was brilliantly cleared off the line by Montassar Talbi before Hazem Mastouri gave Tunisia the lead in the 23rd minute, finishing a rapid counter-attack with a precise low strike past goalkeeper Bento.

Brazil struggled to respond despite several chances from Casemiro, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo. A handball by Bronn in the first half gave Brazil a penalty opportunity, with Estevao scoring with a powerful effort to restore parity to the game.

Tunisia came close to extending their advantage when Elias Saad’s low strike narrowly missed, while Brazil’s woes in front of goal continued in the second half.

In the 78th minute, another chance for the Selecao arose after Ferjani Sassi was penalised for a foul on Vitor Roque, but Lucas Paqueta blasted his effort over from 12 yards.

Brazil were denied yet another penalty in the 88th minute, and a late bobbling strike from Estevao struck the left post, narrowly preventing a dramatic winner.

Despite Brazil’s dominance in possession, Tunisia’s resilience and clinical counter-attacks ensured they left Lille with a memorable 1–1 draw, sending a strong message ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures.

For Tunisia, this was a good test as they prepare for not just the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations but next year’s World Cup.
