Etoile du Sahel Return to Top of Tunisian League as Bounedjah Shines
Etoile Sportive du Sahel (ESS) have reclaimed the top spot in the Tunisian Ligue 1 following a commanding away victory over EGS Gafsa in a rescheduled Matchday 4 fixture played on Thursday.
After briefly surrendering first place to Club Africain on Matchday 6, ESS bounced back in style to reaffirm their title ambitions. The win sees the Sousse-based club return to the summit of the national championship standings.
The star of the evening was Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah, who netted a clinical hat-trick to seal the 3–0 win for his side. Bounedjah opened the scoring in the 44th minute before striking twice in quick succession late in the second half, adding goals in the 80th and 83rd minutes to complete his treble.
The 22-year-old forward now has five goals to his name in the competition, emerging as one of the league’s standout performers in the early stages of the season.
Thursday’s result also reinforces ESS’s strong form, as they continue to challenge for domestic supremacy. With a blend of attacking flair and defensive stability, the club is looking to build on its rich history in Tunisian football.
For EGS Gafsa, the defeat adds further pressure as they struggle to gain momentum in the league. ESS, meanwhile, will be looking to maintain their momentum and fend off challengers as the title race gathers pace.
