Sébastien Desabre Sacked as Espérance de Tunis Appoint Khaled Ben Yahia
Espérance de Tunis have parted ways with French coach Sébastien Desabre following a poor run of results that has left the Tunisian champions reeling.
Desabre, who took over from Dutchman Ruud Krol, was dismissed after the club’s elimination from the CAF Champions League and a disappointing opening-day league defeat. The management has moved swiftly to replace him, naming local veteran Khaled Ben Yahia as the new head coach.
Ben Yahia, 54, returns to Espérance for his third stint in charge, having previously managed the club between 1995-1997 and 2005-2007. His appointment was officially announced on Friday, with the club confirming he will start his new role on Sunday, August 17, at 4:30 p.m.
A statement from Espérance outlined the new coaching setup: “Khaled Ben Yahia will be assisted by Tarek Thabet, while Jalel Hergli will oversee physical preparation and Jean-Jacques Tizié will take charge of goalkeeping.”
The immediate task for Ben Yahia will be to halt a worrying sequence of three consecutive defeats and reinvigorate a side struggling to live up to their lofty expectations this season.
Espérance, traditionally one of Tunisia’s most successful teams, will be hoping the experienced local coach can steady the ship and guide them back to winning ways both domestically and in continental competitions.
