Tunisia’s national football team, the “Eagles of Carthage,” held their second training session on Saturday as part of their preparations for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier against Gambia. The session took place at the Radès Annex Stadium, with 25 players participating in drills focusing on physical conditioning and tactical strategies.
The team returned to Tunis on Friday following their 2-0 victory against Madagascar.
Upon arrival, the players who featured heavily in Thursday’s match undertook a light recovery session, while the remaining squad members trained as usual.
Saturday’s session marked a shift to more intensive preparation, with tactical drills aimed at fine-tuning the system head coach Kais Yaakoubi plans to employ against Gambia.
A final training session is scheduled for Sunday evening, wrapping up Tunisia’s preparation for the match, which will take place on Monday evening.
Despite his red card against Madagascar and suspension for the Gambia match, right-back Wajdi Kechrida has remained in camp and is actively training with the squad.
His continued presence has provided additional morale as the team looks to end their qualifying campaign on a high note.
Meanwhile, Tunisia will be without midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, who withdrew from training on Friday due to a right anterior injury.
The 20-year-old’s absence will be a setback for the Eagles of Carthage as they aim to maintain their leadership in Group J.
Tunisia has already booked their place in the final tournament of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
However, Monday’s match against Gambia carries significance as the team seeks to solidify their position at the top of the group standings.
The match is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. GMT at the Radès Olympic Stadium, with the Tunisian squad determined to finish their qualifying campaign undefeated.
While the result will not affect Tunisia’s qualification, the encounter offers an opportunity for Kais Yaakoubi to test tactical variations and provide valuable minutes for squad rotation players.
As the Eagles of Carthage look to Morocco, they remain focused on maintaining their winning momentum and ensuring readiness for the challenges ahead in the final tournament.
