TS Galaxy seek UEFA Pro Licence coach as Bernard Parker moves to assistant role

TS Galaxy are looking for a coach with a UEFA Pro Licence, with current head coach Bernard Parker set to move into an assistant role, club boss Tim Sukazi has confirmed.

The club hope to complete the appointment during the current FIFA international break, allowing the new coach to take charge from the touchline when TS Galaxy return to action on 18 October.

Their next match will be away to reigning PSL champions Orlando Pirates in Soweto.

Sukazi said the club’s previous experience with coaches holding the qualification had influenced its search for Parker’s successor.

“I think the UEFA Pro Licence has done us well. It has done us good over time. It’s possible that we may go back to that, because we saw what it did for TS Galaxy,” Sukazi told Ikwekwezi FM.

He was referring to the appointments of Sead Ranoviv and Adnan Beganovic, both of whom have worked at TS Galaxy and hold the UEFA Pro Licence.

Beganovic, who is from Bosnia-Herzegovina, left the club towards the end of last season but could be considered for a return. Sukazi said the coach still had “unfinished business” with TS Galaxy.

“Maybe Beganovic is an option, because he has unfinished business here. There are also many international coaches that we have a relationship with. We don’t have one yet,” Sukazi said.

The club chairman also acknowledged that Parker was unprepared for the circumstances surrounding TS Galaxy’s 1-0 defeat by Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium earlier this month.

Sukazi said Parker had been unable to find answers during the game, although he remains convinced that the former Bafana Bafana striker has the potential to become an excellent coach.

He believes Parker’s development should include obtaining the highest coaching qualification available.

“It would be great if Parker can get a UEFA Pro Licence, for example. With a benefit of hindsight, we didn’t approach the Kruger match well,” Sukazi said.

“It was a hot match, to be honest, and we couldn’t find solutions on our feet.”

With Parker moving into an assistant position, TS Galaxy are now seeking a coach who can meet their qualification requirements and lead the team when the season resumes against Orlando Pirates on 18 October.
