TS Galaxy coach backs Seluleko Mahlambi to rediscover form despite transfer speculation

TS Galaxy interim coach Esau Mtsweni says Seluleko Mahlambi remains committed to the club and has not been distracted by speculation over a possible move to Kaizer Chiefs.

Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi recently told Metro FM that he rejected a R4m offer from Kaizer Chiefs for the 22-year-old winger. Mahlambi was in outstanding form last season but has struggled to reproduce those performances this campaign, leading to suggestions that uncertainty over his future may have affected him.

Mtsweni rejected that idea, saying Mahlambi remains focused and in the right frame of mind.

“As far as I know, Mahlambi is okay. He is focused, and he wants to be here. He’s always giving his best,” Mtsweni said.

Mahlambi scored six goals and provided six assists in six matches across all competitions last season. However, he has yet to score or create a goal in eight games across all tournaments this season.

Mtsweni declined to comment in detail on the offers for the player, but said Mahlambi’s immediate focus remained with Galaxy.

“I spoke to him; he said he wants to be here until whatever happens will happen,” the Rockets caretaker mentor said.

Mahlambi’s drop in output has coincided with a difficult start for Galaxy, with the winger having played an influential role for the club in recent times. The Rockets have won only one of their 10 matches in all competitions this season, losing five and drawing four.

That run has left Galaxy two points above the relegation zone. Their next fixture is an away league match against Stellenbosch on November 27.
