Trezeguet travels to Cairo for further tests on thigh injury

Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” has travelled from Saudi Arabia to Egypt for medical checks on the injury he suffered while playing for Al-Riyadh.

The Egypt international winger received permission from Al-Riyadh’s management to leave the country and undergo further examinations to establish the exact nature and severity of the problem, according to Saudi newspaper Al Yaum.

Trezeguet was injured during Al-Riyadh’s match against Al-Khaleej after complaining of a problem in the hamstring muscle at the back of his thigh. He was unable to continue and left the pitch in the opening minutes of the game.

The player was subsequently given approval to travel to Egypt for the necessary medical tests. The results are expected to determine how long he will be unavailable, as well as the treatment and rehabilitation programme he will follow in the coming period.

Saudi newspaper Al Riyadiya previously reported that initial examinations indicated Trezeguet had suffered an injury to his hamstring. Further medical assessments will provide a clearer picture of the seriousness of the injury sustained by the Egypt international.

Trezeguet fell to the ground during the match and called for Al-Riyadh’s medical staff to attend to him. The club’s medical team decided that he should be taken off to prevent the injury from worsening.

The circumstances suggest that Trezeguet may have played against Al-Khaleej without having fully recovered from an earlier muscular problem. He had missed Al-Riyadh’s match against Al-Ahli Saudi on Friday because of that injury.

That game finished goalless, leaving Al-Riyadh with five points from its matches and 12th in the Saudi league standings. Al-Khaleej are directly below them in 13th place with four points.

Trezeguet’s latest assessment in Cairo will therefore be significant for both the player and Al-Riyadh, with the club awaiting confirmation of the diagnosis before determining his recovery plan and expected time away from competition.
