Trezeguet scores and assists as 10-man Al Riyadh draw with Al Shabab
Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” scored his first goal for Al Riyadh and provided an assist as his side drew 3-3 away to Al Shabab in an eventful Saudi Pro League match.
Al Riyadh played with 10 men from the 61st minute after midfielder Kader Keita was sent off, but still secured a point in a game that produced six goals.
Trezeguet opened his account for the Saudi club by scoring Al Riyadh’s first goal. The Egypt international cut in from the left before striking a powerful left-footed shot into the Al Shabab net.
The match was level at 2-2 at half-time, with both sides finding the target twice during an entertaining opening 45 minutes.
Trezeguet then played a decisive role in Al Riyadh’s third goal, setting up Teddy Okou in the 57th minute. The assist took his total to three goal contributions since joining the club.
Al Shabab eventually restored parity in the 81st minute through Yannick Carrasco, who scored twice during the match.
The result came in the third round of the Saudi Pro League and represented a notable contribution from Trezeguet despite Al Riyadh’s numerical disadvantage for the final stages.
The 31-year-old recorded his first assist for Al Riyadh during his second appearance for the club, helping the team reach the last 16 of the King Cup of Saudi Arabia.
Trezeguet ended his contract with Al Ahly last month before completing his move to Al Riyadh as a free agent. His switch to Saudi Arabia followed a long career playing outside Egypt.
He began his 10-year overseas career in 2015, when he joined Anderlecht on loan. The Belgian club made the move permanent after one season.
The forward has also represented Aston Villa in England, Trabzonspor, Kasımpasa and Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkiye, as well as Mouscron in Belgium and Al-Rayyan in Qatar.
Trezeguet returned to Cairo last summer after a lengthy spell abroad to play for Al Ahly. He had progressed through the club’s youth system before making his first-team debut in 2012.
His latest performance gives him an immediate impact at Al Riyadh, with a goal and an assist in the draw against Al Shabab adding to the contribution he made during the club’s King Cup campaign.
