Trezeguet move to Al Riyadh awaits official announcement after league approval

Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet is set to join Al Riyadh after the club received approval from the Roshn Saudi League to complete the signing of the Egypt international.

Sources close to Al Riyadh told Saudi newspaper Al Riyadiah that the club has already signed the 31-year-old winger on a free transfer. The move is expected to be announced officially within the next few hours, once Al Riyadh has completed the remaining registration requirements.

The development marks a significant return to prominence for Al Riyadh, known as the “Central Region School”, as the club strengthens its squad ahead of the new season. The agreement for Trezeguet is regarded as one of the notable deals of the summer transfer window.

Al Riyadh, chaired by Bandar Al-Muqil, received its financial competency certificate last Thursday after fulfilling all the conditions set by the league. The certificate means the club is now officially eligible to register new players with its first-team squad.

Trezeguet ended his contract with Egyptian club Al Ahly last month, bringing to a close his latest spell with the club where he developed through the youth system. He returned to Al Ahly last summer after a decade-long career in European, Middle Eastern and Egyptian football.

The winger has represented a number of clubs during his career, including Aston Villa in England, Trabzonspor, Kasımpasa and Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey, Anderlecht and Mouscron in Belgium, and Al Rayyan in Qatar.

His first move abroad came in 2015, when he joined Anderlecht on loan from Al Ahly. The Belgian club later made the transfer permanent, beginning a lengthy period of overseas football for the Egypt international.

Trezeguet had initially progressed through Al Ahly’s youth ranks before making his first-team debut in 2012. His return to the Cairo club last summer preceded the expected move to Al Riyadh, where he will become one of the most prominent additions to the squad.

The final formalities now centre on player registration, with the Saudi club’s financial clearance already secured. Once those requirements have been completed, Al Riyadh is expected to confirm the signing publicly.
