Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet delivered a standout performance to lead Al Ahly to a 2–0 home win over Young Africans in the third round of Group B in the CAF Champions League at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
The Red Devils strengthened their position at the top of the group with a confident result in front of their supporters.
Trezeguet opened the scoring deep into first-half stoppage time, meeting a precise cross from Mohamed Hany with a well-placed header in the 45+3 minute to break the deadlock. The first half ended with Al Ahly ahead despite a generally below-par display, as the team struggled at times to turn possession into clear chances.
The second half saw more open play, with Young Africans threatening on quick counterattacks and Al Ahly pushing to extend their lead. Goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir produced several important saves, dealing with dangerous crosses and long-range efforts to preserve his clean sheet.
Emam Ashour played a key creative role on the left, repeatedly driving forward and supplying dangerous passes into the box. His influence was rewarded in the 75th minute, when he released Trezeguet with a perfectly weighted ball that the winger finished clinically to make it 2–0 and effectively settle the contest.
Coach Jess Thorup refreshed his side late on, introducing Nitis Gradisar, Taher Mohamed Taher, and Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane to maintain intensity and control. Young Africans, under Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves, continued to battle until the final whistle but could not find a way past Al Ahly’s organized defense and in-form goalkeeper.
The victory takes Al Ahly to 7 points at the top of Group B, underlining their status as strong contenders for another deep run in Africa’s premier club competition.
