Trevoh Chalobah heads to Italy to complete Como 1907 move after Chelsea spell

Trevoh Chalobah is set to end his long association with Chelsea and join Como 1907 after the Italian club agreed a five-year contract with the defender. The transfer is worth €30m, with a further €6m available in potential bonuses, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chalobah travelled to Italy on Wednesday to complete the final steps of the move, ESPN reports. The 27-year-old has been part of Chelsea since he was eight and is now close to beginning a new chapter in Serie A.

The defender, who has Sierra Leonean heritage, came through Chelsea’s youth system before gaining senior experience through a series of loan spells. He spent time with Huddersfield Town, Ipswich Town, Lorient and Crystal Palace as he developed away from Stamford Bridge.

He was recalled by Chelsea at the start of 2025 and quickly established himself as an important member of the London club’s squad. During his time with the Blues, Chalobah won the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

His Chelsea contract was due to run until 2028, but the club have now agreed to let him leave for Como 1907. The transfer fee is below the €40m valuation attributed to him by Transfermarkt.

Chalobah’s annual salary in England was reported as €3,045,858, equivalent to 1,979,807,700 CFA francs. His move to Italy will bring an end to a Chelsea career that began in childhood and included progression through the club’s academy, several loan periods and a return to first-team contention.

Como 1907 are preparing for their next pre-season fixture, against Arsenal. The match will provide the Italian side with another opportunity to prepare for the campaign, with Chalobah’s arrival being finalised at the same time.
